Aksel Teigen Breistrand

Aksel Teigen Breistrand was the editor of RISS from 2021 to 2022. Aksel completed his master’s degree at the University of Bergen (UiB) in 2023 and has specialized in Mediterranean archaeology, with a primary focus on Roman urban architecture. Today, he works as a field archaeologist, primarily in Italy. As an archaeology student at UiB, Aksel felt the absence of a clear student community with an academic focus and wanted a platform where like-minded students could discuss their field and work critically with texts. He gathered a team and revived RISS, which had been dormant for five years. In the beginning, there was a steep learning curve with plenty of trial and error, but by the end of his tenure as editor, he and the editorial team had established a foundation for RISS to build upon. Aksel’s goal as editor was to create a space where archaeology students could come together and develop their academic and textual skills through editorial work. He was also particularly focused on academic quality and aimed to include both Norwegian and international contributions, while ensuring that RISS offered publication opportunities for students.
